Russians urged to get used to global warming

OREANDA-NEWS Russian residents need to get used to global warming, and the authorities need to focus on the experience of countries that it overtook earlier. This advice was shared by the head of the Department of Meteorology and Climatology of the Geographical Faculty of Moscow State University, Professor Alexander Kislov, in an interview with the radio stations "Moscow Speaks".
According to him, heat waves have overtaken the Central region of Russia before, for example, in 2010 and 1979. At the same time, "it was just hot" at that time, and now the hot weather has come to the region along with heavy rains. Kislov urged Russia to follow the experience of those countries in which such phenomena occur more often. For example, old trees are being removed there, and the water discharge system is being improved so that storm drains are not polluted.
The expert also pointed out the difficulties of such improvements. So, it is quite expensive to make a storm drain designed for a large volume of water. If the drain does not completely cope with the water, the remaining liquid will flow through the streets. Then it is more profitable to create channels for water flow. "Let it [water] flow in the right direction, into some kind of river, and not just flood the area," the climatologist suggested.
Earlier, the leading specialist of the Meteonovosti news agency, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, announced the end of the "tired sun" period in Moscow — the time when the temperature exceeded the norm for a long time. According to the forecaster, starting from Friday, July 19, in the daytime the temperature will cease to reach plus 28-30 degrees Celsius.
