Russian Senator Recalled Criminal Charges of Treason for Working with "Anti-Russian Centers"
OREANDA-NEWS For Russian citizens who "knowingly cooperate with foreign anti-Russian centers," criminal punishment is provided under the article on treason. Andrei Klimov, deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs and head of the interim commission for the protection of Russian sovereignty, wrote about this in Telegram.
According to him, the commission for the protection of Russian sovereignty will hold a scheduled meeting on March 1, and the first issue will consider the "extremely important and very relevant" topic of "bringing to justice the real arsonists" of the conflict.
"For the citizens of the Russian Federation itself, who knowingly cooperate with foreign anti-Russian centers, causing obvious damage to our national security, there is an article "High Treason" in the Criminal Code (Article 275)," the senator wrote, adding that the main thing in it is "the inevitability and targeting of punishment of all truly guilty of crimes."
The maximum penalty under this article is imprisonment for up to 20 years.
The senator also recalled that there are two special articles in the Criminal Code of Russia - Article 353 ("Planning, preparation, unleashing or waging an aggressive war") and Article 354 ("Public calls for unleashing an aggressive war").
The Prosecutor General's Office warned on February 27 that the actions of Russians who provide financial and other assistance to a foreign state may qualify as high treason.
