Russian media urged UNESCO not to remain silent about violations of journalists' rights

OREANDA-NEWS A RIA Novosti journalist has sent letters to the UNESCO secretariat from Russian media demanding that they stop covering up the facts of violations of the rights of Russian journalists.
The Intergovernmental Council of the UNESCO International Communication Development Program, at which it is planned to announce the report of Director General Audrey Azoulay on the issue of impunity for crimes against journalists for 2022-2023, which does not mention the journalists of the Russian Federation who died due to the actions of the Kiev regime.
Before the start of the meeting, which was closed to the press, a RIA Novosti correspondent personally handed letters to the representative of the UNESCO secretariat to the Russian media.
In a letter to UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, the Russia Today media Group demanded that the organization stop suppressing the facts of violations of the rights of Russian journalists. The letter was written in the light of the absence in the draft UNESCO report on the safety of journalists of mention of a number of facts of death and injury by representatives of the Russian media in the course of performing their professional duties. In particular, there is no mention of RIA Novosti military correspondent Rostislav Zhuravlev, who died on July 22, 2023 as a result of Ukrainian shelling in the Zaporozhye region.
RT sent a letter to Azula in connection with the situation around her draft report "The safety of journalists and the problem of impunity for 2022-2023", in which she expresses outrage and provides a list of cases that fall under the criteria of the organization's reports, but were not included in it, the TV channel reported.
Vladimir Solovyov, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Russia (UCR), and Pavel Gusev, head of the Moscow branch of the UCR, Chairman of the Union of Journalists of Moscow, also sent a letter to the Director General of UNESCO. Earlier, the chairman of the SOHR, Vladimir Solovyov, told RIA Novosti that on Monday he would prepare a letter to UNESCO in connection with the non-inclusion of the names of the dead Russian journalists in the report.
