OREANDA-NEWS. Russia is concerned about the attempts of some American politicians to use the rhetoric around the Open Skies Treaty in the domestic political game; there has been no official information about Washington’s withdrawal from the agreement. This was stated at a briefing on Friday by Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

"We are seriously concerned about the statements of some senior functionaries, US parliamentarians, who are trying to make the agreement a bargaining chip in domestic political games", said Zakharova. "I would like to inform you that so far no official statements about the possible withdrawal of the United States from the Open Skies Treaty have been made", she said.

According to her, in order to give their actions the appearance of US legitimacy, they traditionally refer to external threats in the form of Russia and China, which supposedly threaten America.
