OREANDA-NEWS. A Russian citizen detained in Valencia at the request of the United States is suspected of involvement in online fraud. This information was confirmed to a Russian media correspondent on Monday by a source in the civil guard.

“It was a joint operation with the Spanish national police”, law enforcement officials said. The Spanish newspaper previously reported that the Russian Alexander K. was detained for his alleged involvement in the "millionth fraud" that he allegedly committed through the Internet. As previously reported by the Russian Embassy in Madrid, Spanish law enforcement authorities detained a Russian citizen at Valencia Airport at the request of the United States on September 20. Russian lawyer Elena Taranova said that "the detention was made on the basis of a request from the United States." “An extradition case has been opened”, the lawyer added. “So far, the lawyer has no access to the case file”.

“As of today, the Spanish court has only adopted a decision confirming the participation of a lawyer in the process”, she said. “The only documents that the defense has so far are a short description of the criminal offenses imputed to him, with which my client does not agree”. “So far, no additional documents and other evidence have been provided”, the lawyer said.
