OREANDA-NEWS. The Interpol National Bureau received a notice of the detention in Poland at the request of Russia of one of the leaders of the radical organization Ukrainian National Assembly - Ukrainian People’s Self-Defense, Igor Mazur. This was reported to the Russian media by a source in law enforcement agencies.
Mazur was detained by Polish border guards last Saturday on the basis of a request from Russia, where he was accused of having links with illegal armed groups in 1994-1995 operating on the territory of Chechnya. The Polish authorities assured that they would carefully consider this matter in compliance with international law. Some Polish politicians and public figures opposed the extradition of Mazur to Russia, saying that Moscow had abused Interpol’s instruments for political purposes.
On November 10, a spokeswoman for the district court of the Polish city of Lublin told the Russian media that the court wouldn't consider the case of the arrest of Mazur, since the prosecutor had withdrawn the request. The Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova in her Telegram channel reported that Masur was handed over on bail of the Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin.
