Russia Proposed to Create a "List of Butina"
Maria Butin’s father, Valery, told the publication that he considered the creation of the list to be fair. He stressed that his daughter was convicted for being Russian. In his opinion, any other foreigner would not have received such a period. On April 26, a Washington court sentenced Butin to 18 months in prison for "conspiring to work illegally for the Russian government." After serving the sentence, she is deported to Russia.
In December 2018, the Russian woman made a deal with the investigation and confirmed that she was striving to establish unofficial lines of communication with the Americans, including through the National Association of the United States. The creator of the public movement “Right to Arms”, Maria Butina, was detained in the USA on July 15, 2018. The American side claims that it tried to influence the main sponsors of the Republican Party to promote Russian interests.
State Duma deputy from the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Valery Rashkin added that the arrest of Russians threatens to become not exclusive, but normal practice in relations between the Russian Federation and the United States. This is facilitated by increased competition between countries on the world stage, he explained. According to the deputy, Maria Butina went on self-contract because she was afraid to repeat the fate of the Russian pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in the United States.
