OREANDA-NEWS Vladimir Sotnikov, a leading researcher at the Center for Central Asian Studies at the Institute of China and Modern Asia of the Russian Academy of Sciences, believed that the West could be involved in the unrest in Bangladesh. His opinion is quoted by RIA Novosti.

He explained his words by saying that the country's largest opposition force, the Nationalist Party, is focused on closer cooperation with the Western world. She was among the most active supporters of the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Sotnikov also considered that instability in this region could affect Russian political interests, but did not specify exactly how. In addition, neighboring India may also intervene in the situation.

On Monday, August 5, Sheikh Hasina resigned after 15 years in office, fleeing to India and requesting asylum in the UK. This happened against the background of the resumption of protests and riots in the country with even greater force. At the moment, about 100 people have become victims of the clashes. The protesters also destroyed Hasina's residence.
