OREANDA-NEWS Russia expects the IAEA to give the necessary political assessments on the situation at the Zaporizhia NPP in order to avoid a repeat of provocations, Roman Ustinov, Acting Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna, told RIA Novosti.

"The Director General of the IAEA... Grossi notes that he cannot yet make an unambiguous conclusion and will continue to analyze the situation. For our part, we proceed from the fact that they will be given the necessary political assessments and signals in this case in order to avoid a repeat of such provocations in the future," Ustinov said.

Earlier, Rosatom reported that as a result of two direct strikes by attack drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the evening of August 11, one of the cooling towers of the Zaporizhia NPP, the facility of the cooling system of the station, was seriously damaged. The resulting fire was extinguished by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the threat of collapse of the structure will be assessed by specialists when the situation allows. The state corporation called the incident an act of nuclear terrorism. In turn, the station's press service reported that the fire had no effect on the operation of the NPP. All six units, as before, are not working and are in a "cold shutdown" state. There are no casualties. Violations of the limits and conditions of safe operation of the NPP have not been recorded. The radiation background is normal. The governor of the Zaporozhye region, Yevgeny Balitsky, said that there was no danger to the region as a result of the fire at the NPP.
