OREANDA-NEWS. Russia's ambassador to Serbia, Alexander Chepurin, demanded to investigate “the attack of so-called Kosovo-Albanian police on Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, who is a UN employee and who has diplomatic immunity” and bring those responsible to justice.

Commenting on the incident on the Facebook page of the diplomatic mission, the Russian ambassador to Serbia called the “attack of the so-called Kosovo-Albanian police on Mikhail Krasnoshchekov, who is a UN employee and has diplomatic immunity, a rude provocation and another manifestation of Pristina’s disrespect for the norms of international law and civilized communication”.

The ambassador said that “during the seizure, Mikhail was subjected to violence, he suffered serious bodily injuries,” noting that active efforts were made to release Krasnoshchekov by the Russian Embassy in Serbia and the office in Pristina. "Currently, he is under the supervision of doctors in a hospital in the gray-populated Northern Mitrovica, with him Russian diplomats," Chepurin said. “We will demand that the control of the situation in the province of the international presences investigate this incident and bring those responsible to justice,” the ambassador stressed.

On Tuesday, Krasnoshchekov suffered severe head and face injuries during a Kosovo police operation in the north of the province and in Metohija. According to Pristina, Krasnoshchekov allegedly was near the barricades along with the Serbs. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called the detention of a diplomat in Kosovo a “blatant act”. In the Federation Council, Krasnoshchekov’s detention was regarded as a prologue to hostilities. Serbian President Alexander Vucic announced the full combat readiness of the army and police. Now in the region is extremely tense.
