OREANDA-NEWS.  The Russian side paid a contribution to the budget of the Council of Europe for 2019, its amount was approximately € 33 million, said CE Secretary-General’s spokesman Daniel Holtgen.

 Recall, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution in which it confirmed the authority of Russia in full.  Ukraine announced the termination of work at the summer session of the PACE, as well as a demarche of six more countries.

 Russia promised to pay off the debt before the beginning of the Georgian chairmanship of the committee of ministers, that is, until November.  Earlier it became known the condition of payment of contributions of Russia to the Council of Europe.

 In 2014, after the events in Ukraine and the reunification of the Crimea with the Russian Federation, the Russian delegation was deprived of some of the powers and ceased to participate in PACE sessions, as well as to pay contributions to the Council of Europe.  The latter has hit the organization’s budget very hard - Moscow was one of its main sources.
