OREANDA-NEWS  The bombing of pagers in Lebanon opens up many questions, including in the context of information security, the consequences of such attacks should be analyzed and appropriate recommendations given, Dmitry Polyansky, first Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the United Nations, said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"This opens up a lot of issues that have yet to be analyzed not only in the context of the Middle East settlement, but also in the context of information security," the Russian diplomat said.

Earlier, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, Vasily Nebenzia, commenting on the terrorist attacks, stated that what happened brings the escalation in the Middle East "into a new high-tech dimension." At the same time, it was the actions of the United States and its satellites that brought the world to the threat of terrorist attacks using household appliances, the permanent representative noted.

Communications equipment, including pagers and walkie-talkies, detonated in different areas of Lebanon on September 17 and 18. According to official data, 37 people were killed and more than 3,000 injured. It is not yet known what caused the simultaneous explosion of thousands of devices. Hezbollah and the Lebanese authorities blamed Israel for the incident. The Israeli authorities have not yet confirmed or denied their involvement. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called what happened in Lebanon a monstrous act of terrorism and an attempt to ignite a major conflict.
