OREANDA-NEWS. Russia and Turkey begin joint patrols in Syrian Idlib on the basis of a document signed by Russian and Turkish military experts following negotiations in Ankara.
As noted by the Russian Ministry of Defense, these negotiations were held in a constructive spirit, their results will make it possible to implement all the agreements on the Idlib de-escalation zone reached by the Presidents of Russia and Turkey Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan on March 5, Moscow. On Sunday, the first joint Russian-Turkish patrol of the M-4 highway will take place, which connects the two large provinces of Hasek and Aleppo in northern Syria. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt авavuşoлуlu announced on March 10 that the Turkish military would patrol the territory north of the M-4 highway, and the Russians south of it.
The situation around Idlib province escalated on February 27, when, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense, the militants attempted a large-scale offensive. The Syrian military attacked them, which, according to Ankara, killed 36 Turkish troops. The Russian defense department reported that the Turkish armed forces who had come under fire from the Turkish Armed Forces were among the terrorists.
