Russia and the United States have increased the number of deployed nuclear warheads in 2022

OREANDA-NEWS Nuclear powers, including Russia and the United States, are actively modernizing their arsenals, against the background of the Ukrainian conflict, the number of deployed warheads is only growing, according to data from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).
According to SIPRI statistics, in January 2023, countries such as Russia, the United States, Great Britain, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel had a total of about 12,512 nuclear weapons, of which 9576 were in warehouses for potential use. This is 86 units more compared to January 2022. At the same time, about two thousand warheads (almost all of them American and Russian) were in a state of high alert.
The leader in the number of deployed warheads at the beginning of 2023, the report named the United States with 1,770 units, as well as Russia with 1,674. Together, both countries possess approximately 90% of all nuclear weapons stockpiles. They are followed by France and the UK with 280 and 120 units respectively.
