OREANDA-NEWS  Russia and Belarus were accused of the influx of migrants to Poland, Finland and the Baltic States. The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, at a press conference following the first day of the EU summit, called what was happening a hybrid attack by Moscow and Minsk and promised to help these countries.

"I can say that this is a political action, a hybrid attack by Russia and Belarus," the head of the EC said and added that she would take all measures to combat migration in these states.

Before the press conference, the final statement of the migration summit was distributed, in which the leaders of European countries accused Minsk and Moscow of "abusing European values, including the right to asylum." It also stated that the EU would strengthen migration controls and consider any exceptional anti-migration measures at the borders with Belarus and the Russian Federation acceptable.

The summit participants wanted to ensure "effective control of external borders by any means." The decision on strengthening control will be made at the ministerial level by the Council of the European Union.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that the country wants to temporarily suspend the granting of asylum to migrants. According to him, Poles want people who want to work, pay taxes, and integrate into Polish society to enter the country.
