OREANDA-NEWS Rosrybolovstvo, together with the State Duma and the Federation Council, will analyze fishing agreements between Russia and other countries to identify unprofitable ones among them, said the head of the department Ilya Shestakov.
As RBC clarifies, the idea of analyzing intergovernmental agreements in the field of fisheries was put forward in early March by the speaker of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko.
"I absolutely agree with Valentina Ivanovna. Of course, an audit must be carried out. If we talk about fishing, we will certainly carry out such an audit, of course... It is necessary to consider all these agreements in a complex here. And, of course, we will look at them and analyze them together with the Federation Council and the State Duma," Shestakov said in an interview with RBC television.

The head of the department stressed that the issue of the benefits of such agreements is complex and they need to be considered in a comprehensive manner. He explains that "we don't have an agreement where we just allow countries to come into our economy zone and fish with us." At the same time, there are exchange agreements where the Russian Federation allows you to enter its economy zone, but at the same time has the right to enter the economy zone of this state for fishing, as well as agreements under which Russia grants the right to fish in exchange for monetary compensation.
In early March, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law on the denunciation of the 1956 fishing agreement with Great Britain, which allowed British sailors to fish in the Russian zone of the Barents Sea. Shestakov believes that this agreement had no meaning for Russia and was more aimed at opportunities for the British fleet.
