Earlier, the White House reported that US President Joe Biden had invited 40 world leaders, including a Russian counterpart, to an event that Washington intends to organize on April 22-23 in a virtual format.
The release says: "Vladimir Putin will outline Russia's approaches in the context of establishing broad international cooperation aimed at overcoming the negative consequences of global climate change."
They want to time the summit to coincide with Earth Day. In addition to Putin, the leaders of China, Great Britain, Germany, Australia, France, Turkey, India, Italy, Spain, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and other countries were invited to attend.
The event is announced as a milestone before the 26th Conference of the Parties to the Framework Convention on Climate Change, scheduled for November.
In the meantime, the United States of America and the People's Republic of China issued a joint statement on combating climate change, expressing their willingness to continue to work towards implementing the Paris Agreement. The document was agreed upon following a meeting in Shanghai between US President's Special Envoy for Climate John Kerry and his Chinese counterpart Xie Zhenhua.
