OREANDA-NEWS. Almost half of the Ukrainian voters in the second round of the presidential elections are ready to vote for the candidate from the party “Servant of the People” Vladimir Zelensky. This is evidenced by the exit poll data. 

The survey results are provided by the Center for Social Monitoring. “In response to a question about a possible choice in the second round, 49.4% preferred Zelensky,” the article says. And 19.8% are ready to vote for the current president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko. Another 11.6% said they would not go to the polls.The survey was conducted on the day of presidential elections on March 31 among 29.5 thousand Ukrainians leaving the polling stations.

Previously, presidential candidates Petro Poroshenko and Vladimir Zelensky were going to hold a debate on the NSC Olimpiyskiy in Kiev, but the CEC recognized this as agitation, not televised debates, and therefore should be paid from their funds. It was also recalled that until the CEC announces the second round of elections, campaigning of presidential candidates is prohibited.

The results of the first round show that “the electorate is tired of the lack of change in a country ruled by rich businessmen.” Against this background, Zelensky seems to Ukrainians "to be a rebel opposing a tired old guard," notes The New York Times. 

CNN experts believe that despite the many shortcomings of Poroshenko as a Ukrainian leader, he represents the country "lesser evil", while Zelensky is "a clean sheet and an absolute newcomer to politics."
