OREANDA-NEWS. The United States and its allies, in particular NATO, have clearly indicated their position, according to which there is no question of military assistance to Ukraine, says the head of the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the Russian University of Economics. G.V. Plekhanov Andrey Koshkin. He stressed that Kiev can only count on humanitarian assistance from Washington, Radio 1 writes.
They (NATO countries) are not talking about any clash. The position of the United States and its allies was clearly indicated that no one would help Ukraine militarily. No NATO military operations are predicted, Koshkin assured.
He recalled that NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, even before the start of the Russian special operation in Donbass, spoke about the transfer of troops and equipment to the eastern borders of the Alliance. However, according to Koshkin, these are only statements, and so far there has been no talk of real preparations for hostilities.
Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the Russians. He announced that he had decided to launch a special military operation in the Donbass with the aim of demilitarizing Ukraine. Putin noted that the events that are unfolding today are not connected with the desire to infringe on the interests of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, but with the protection of Russia from those who “took Ukraine hostage and are trying to use it” against Russia.
Earlier, Jens Stoltenberg said that there are no NATO forces on the territory of Ukraine, the North Atlantic Alliance has no plans to send troops to Kiev. He noted that the Alliance provides firm security guarantees only to its allies.
