OREANDA-NEWSPolish Minister of Defense Mariusz Blaszczak accused Moscow of the fact that after the Second World War, the republic didn't receive reparation for the damage caused to the country by Nazi Germany. He stated this on Monday on Polish television. "This compensation was not after the Second World War, because Poland was under the domination of Russia and in this regard, Russia made such a decision. Poland wasn't sovereign in this decision", he said.

The topic of reparations has been discussed in Poland since July last year, when the leader of the Law and Justice party, Jaroslav Kaczynski, said that the country had never refused compensation from Germany. Anthony Macherevich, then Minister of National Defense, said on Polish television that from a legal point of view, Warsaw had every reason to demand reparation from Berlin. The group in the Polish parliament, working on determining the total amount of damage, according to preliminary data, estimated it at almost $ 1 trillion.

The German government has repeatedly indicated that they see no reason for any payments, since in 1953 Poland officially refused reparations. Warsaw argues that the 1953 agreement was signed in violation of Soviet pressure and concerned only the defunct German Democratic Republic and the Polish People's Republic, which, according to local analysts, wasn't a sovereign state.

Poland will continue to discuss the topic of reparations for damage caused to the republic by Nazi Germany, after the parliamentary elections on 13 October. In addition, the country still continues to demand payments from Russia. Answering the question whether Poland will seek reparations, the speaker said: "Of course", He recalled that "work is ongoing in the parliamentary group".
