Poland May Lose 47 Billion Dollars due to the Outflow of Ukrainian Migrants
OREANDA-NEWS. According to Bloomberg agency, the closure of borders may result in a loss of 47 billion US dollars for the Polish economy, which depends on migrants from Ukraine.
The Polish construction sector employs 400 thousand people, it accounts for 8 % of the country’s gross domestic product. Now it faces an unprecedented problem: the outflow of Ukrainian labor force in connection with the coronavirus epidemic, Bloomberg writes. “Lack of workers will lead to a significant decrease in industry productivity,” the open letter of the Polish Association of Construction Employers to the government says.
According to some estimates, about 2 million Ukrainians work in Poland. It is known that about 20 % of Ukrainian workers have already gone home and will not return until the borders are opened.
