OREANDA-NEWS  The buffer zone imposed by Poland on the border with Belarus since June 13 has been extended for three months again, the press service of the Polish Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration reported on Monday.

"The temporary ban on staying in the area adjacent to the Polish-Belarusian border stands up to scrutiny. Therefore, it was extended for another 90 days. The decree on the extension of the buffer zone on the border with Belarus will enter into force on Tuesday, December 10, this year," the message reads.

"The buffer zone is working. For almost 180 days of its operation, the number of attempts to illegally cross the Polish-Belarusian border decreased by about 41%. From June 13 to December 5 this year, almost 11.2 thousand such attempts were recorded. During the same period, before the introduction of the zone, there were more than 19 thousand of them," the Polish Interior Ministry added.

Poland has introduced a buffer zone on the border with Belarus since June 13 this year, implying a temporary ban on the presence of unauthorized persons in a certain section of the border zone. Military Gendarmerie soldiers and additional police forces were also sent to strengthen the Polish-Belarusian border, which the Polish side justifies by "increasing the number of attacks by migrants on border guards and soldiers serving in the border zone."

Since September 11, the buffer zone on the Polish-Belarusian border has been extended for 90 days.
