Poland has begun to build fortifications on the border with Russia

OREANDA-NEWS The construction of the Tarcza Wschod ("Eastern Shield") defensive fortifications on the Polish border has begun, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Friday.
"The construction of the Eastern Shield has begun," Tusk wrote on his account on the social network X.
"The first works on the border with Russia," he added, accompanying the recording with a photo of working excavator and other construction equipment.
Earlier, Polish President Andrzej Duda called the Eastern Shield defensive fortification system being built on the border with Belarus and Russia a new version of the Iron Curtain.
The Tarcza Wschod ("Eastern Shield") project involves the construction of a network of fortifications, barriers, bunkers and reconnaissance systems on the border with Russia and Belarus. The cost of the "Eastern Shield" is estimated at 10 billion zlotys (more than $2.5 billion in equivalent), construction is scheduled to be completed in 2028.
