Poland Fined One of Project Investors in Nord Stream 2 Case
The regulator doesn't specify whether a fine has been imposed on other companies participating in the project. It is noted that the analysis of documents in the case continues. Earlier it was reported that UOKiK on November 8 will announce a “record fine” for the Nord Stream 2 project.
In the spring of 2018, UOKiK initiated an investigation into Gazprom and five international companies because of Nord Stream 2. According to the regulator, Gazprom without the prior consent of UOKiK entered into a financial transaction with these companies, which as a result may lead to restriction of competition.
The Polish antitrust regulator also prevented Gazprom and its European partners from creating a single operator company for the construction of Nord Stream 2. The project operator is Gazprom's subsidiary Nord Stream 2 AG, and European companies finance the construction of the pipeline as lenders.
