OREANDA-NEWS Poland and Finland were deprived of the right to host the World Youth Wrestling Championships due to the non‑issuance of visas to Russian and Belarusian athletes. This was announced to Match TV by the president of the Russian Wrestling Federation Mikhail Mamiashvili.
Mamiashvili refused to consider the decision political. He drew attention to the fact that according to the charter and the treaty, sanctions are imposed on countries due to non‑fulfillment of obligations.
The World Championship among wrestlers under 20 was to be held in Warsaw from August 14 to August 20. The tournament in the under-23 age category was scheduled in Tampere from October 23 to October 29.
On April 4, the executive committee of the United World of Wrestling decided to allow Russian athletes to participate in international tournaments. In the statement of the Federation of Greco-Roman, freestyle and women's wrestling, it was said that the Russians would perform in a neutral status. It is noted that athletes will be allowed to compete in compliance with the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee.
