Peskov Called Medinsky's Idea to Sing Flag in Schools a Personal Initiative
OREANDA-NEWS The proposal by the chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO), aide to President Vladimir Medinsky to chant the country's state symbols in schools has nothing to do with the official position of the Russian leadership, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"I think it was rather the initiative of one of the leaders of our military-historical society and it has nothing to do with the official position," the spokesman said (quoted by TASS).
Medinsky made this proposal on March 24 at the second meeting of the interdepartmental commission on historical education. According to Medinsky, Russia should adopt the American experience of patriotic education in schools where for 150 years all classes have begun every day "with a short prayer for the glory of America, its symbols and flag.
The Education Ministry said that it will discuss Medinsky's idea with the expert community, since "any innovation to the schools requires detailed study.
Last year the Ministry of Education included patriotism education in the educational standard. The Ministry of Justice registered the orders of the Ministry of Education on the approval of the federal state educational standards (FSES) for primary and basic general education. The relevant documents were published on the Internet portal of legal information.
"Approve the attached federal state educational standard of basic general education," the order reads.
FGOS are mandatory requirements for schools, colleges and universities. On their basis, curricula and textbooks are developed. In 2017, President Vladimir Putin instructed to "systematically update" the content of general education "on the basis of the results of monitoring studies and taking into account modern advances in science and technology."
