On July 23, the Brightest Comet in 7 Years to Get Closest to the Earth
OREANDA-NEWS. On Thursday, July 23, comet C/2020 F3 (NEOWISE), which will become the brightest in the last 7 years, will approach the Earth at a minimum distance.
Astronomers inform that the celestial body will fly near our planet at a distance of 103.52 million kilometers. They note that the comet could be seen as early as the middle of July, when its light was even brighter than now. At present, it is visible in the first half of the night between the star Capella and the constellation Big Dipper. Under dark skies, it can be clearly seen with the naked eye. However, near urban areas, binoculars are required to locate the comet.
Comet C/2020 F3 was discovered on March 27, 2020 by the infrared space telescope WISE under the programme named NEOWISE.
