OREANDA-NEWS  NATO is preparing for a clash with Russia, but Russian military planning takes into account any options for the development of events, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"Now the NATO members have stopped hiding that they are preparing for a potential armed clash with Russia. Regional defense plans have been approved, and specific tasks have been formulated for all military commands of the bloc. We are constantly working out possible options for military action against Russia," he said.

The Deputy Minister noted that the North Atlantic Alliance is rolling out logistical routes for the transfer of troops across the Atlantic, deploying arms depots on the eastern flank and deploying contingents. From January 22 to May 31, the largest Steadfast Defender maneuvers since the end of the Cold War took place, and for the first time in their scenario, Russia, not a fictitious state, appeared as an enemy, Grushko stressed.

"Military budgets are being pumped up, the economy is being militarized. In addition to the confrontational rhetoric, NATO is continuously increasing the degree of tension towards Russia," he said.

According to him, responsible planning in the field of defense should take into account any options and be aimed at demonstrating the futility of talking to Moscow in the language of force.

"I would like to emphasize once again: it is not Russia, but the North Atlantic Alliance that has embarked on the path of confrontation. It was NATO that refused to engage in dialogue with us and jointly search for ways to respond to real, rather than imaginary, threats and challenges to regional and global security.

It was the purposeful policy of the alliance that led to a large—scale crisis of European security, the destruction of the instruments that ensure it," the deputy minister concluded.
Moscow has repeatedly noted that the North Atlantic Alliance is aimed at confrontation, but its further expansion will not bring greater security to Europe. At the same time, the Kremlin stressed that Russia does not pose a threat to any of the NATO countries, but will not ignore actions that are potentially dangerous to its interests. Nevertheless, it remains open to dialogue, but on an equal basis, and the West should abandon the course of militarization of the continent.
