OREANDA-NEWS. The response of the Russian Federation to pardon in Lithuania convicted of espionage of Russian citizens will be mirrored. This was stated on Friday by the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergey Naryshkin, answering the corresponding question of the Russian media. "According to my data, these are mirror measures", he said. On Friday, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda pardoned Russian citizens Sergei Moiseenko and Nikolai Filipchenko, who were sentenced in 2017 on charges of spying for Russia to 10.5 and 10 years in prison, respectively.
In October, Lithuanian media reported that Vilnius and Moscow had reached an agreement and were preparing for an exchange of convicts for intelligence activities. It was alleged that Lithuania will hand over to the Russian Federation Filipchenko, and Russia - the Lithuanian citizens Eugene Mataitis and Aristidas Tamošaitis, convicted in 2016. The media indicated that another Russian was also included in the deal.
The Norwegian press wrote that Norwegian Frude Berg, who was convicted of espionage in Russia, can be added to the lists, and a petition for pardon is being considered in the Kremlin.
