OREANDA-NEWS The situation with apartments in Finland, which are in use by the Russian Center for Science and Culture, has not been resolved, Helsinki has not given any explanations, if Moscow refuses to settle, it will have to take retaliatory measures, the Foreign Ministry told.
Earlier, Finland's largest newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported on the arrest of seven apartments in the center of Helsinki, three of which are located in a house directly opposite the RCSC. The area of the apartments varies from 36 to 175 square meters, their total cost is estimated at 1.4 million euros.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in mid-April, the RCSC received notifications from the Finnish Bailiff Service on the imposition of a temporary (up to three weeks) ban on any actions with real estate in relation to the land plot used by the center, the office building located on it, as well as several apartments in Helsinki.
"The Finnish side justified its actions with the intention to study the question of whether these real estate objects are assets that are subject to arrest in accordance with EU sanctions decisions," the ministry said.
The Embassy in Helsinki, the Foreign Ministry added, sent a note to the Finnish colleagues, in which it was emphasized that this property is owned by Russia, and demanded to explain how, in this case, the bailiffs' decision correlates with international legal norms.
After that, the ban on actions against the land plot and the RCSC building in Helsinki was lifted. "According to the information available at the moment, there are no grounds for the seizure of this property," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported with reference to the Finnish bailiff service.
"At the same time, the situation around the apartments in use by the RCSC remains unresolved. No clarifications have yet been received from the Finnish department on this issue," the Foreign Ministry stressed, expressing surprise that it took so long for the Finnish bailiffs to verify information about the owner of the land plot and the RCSC building.
