Media: U.S. Needs Alternative to Antimony from Russia and China for Ammunition Production

OREANDA-NEWS U.S. antimony reserves for ammunition production will be sufficient until 2025, Defense News reported, citing a report by the U.S. House Armed Services Committee.
It notes that the U.S. depends on China and Russia for antimony supplies, with Tajikistan being the world's third leading antimony supplier. The United States says it needs to start looking for alternative sources of the semi-metal.
The report said antimony is needed to produce everything from bullets and explosives to nuclear weapons, as well as various other military equipment such as night vision goggles. The committee is concerned about recent geopolitical dynamics with Russia and China and how this could accelerate disruptions in the supply chain, especially for antimony.
The Pentagon reportedly has until October 2022 to provide an outlook for the next five years on current and future supply chain vulnerabilities.
It was previously reported that the U.S. administration expects to reduce its dependence on Russian nuclear fuel through investments aimed at developing uranium enrichment facilities on U.S. territory.
