Media: Turkish Prosecutor's Office Requires Up to 15 Tears in Prison for US Consulate General

OREANDA-NEWS. Turkish prosecutors are demanding up to 15 years in prison for Metina Topuz, a US consulate general in Istanbul, who is accused of having links with the Fethullah’s terrorist group (FETO) and espionage. This was reported on Tuesday by a Turkish newspaper.
According to the newspaper, the prosecutor asks the court to sentence Topuz to a prison term of 7.5 to 15 years for being in the ranks of FETO.
Metin Topuz was detained by Turkish law enforcement authorities in October 2017 and is in custody. Washington demands to release both him and two other detained US Consulate General in Istanbul. The prosecutor’s indictment noted that Topuz was in ties with FETO, which Ankara considers responsible for the coup attempt in 2016, and with police officers suspected of participating in the coup. Among the plaintiffs declared, including Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and former Prime Minister Binali Yildirim.
On July 15, 2016, a group of Turkish soldiers and officers attempted a coup and capture of President Tayyip Erdogan. The main confrontation unfolded in Istanbul and Ankara, 250 people were killed, not counting the putschists, more than 2 thousand were injured.
