OREANDA-NEWS. French President Emmanuel Macron, during a recent visit to Moscow, voiced some ideas to Vladimir Putin on the situation in Ukraine, the Daily Mail newspaper writes.
According to media reports, the leader of the republic, in particular, proposed to secure a neutral status for Kiev, which, in turn, would deprive him of the opportunity to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
Moreover, as noted in the material, Macron did not agree on this initiative with the rest of NATO members. Daily Mail sources stressed that the French president's failure to consult with allies prior to talks with Putin could render any agreement meaningless.
“He (Macron) is minding his own business, we don’t know what’s going on. He went beyond the NATO position. But it’s interesting,” said a British government source. The Daily Mail clarified that Macron's proposal for the neutrality of Ukraine is not supported by either the North Atlantic Alliance or Kiev.
The meeting between the Russian and French leaders took place on Monday evening in Moscow and lasted five hours. The central topic of discussion was the problem of ensuring security in Europe.
