OREANDA-NEWS. The UK government will double the number of entry visas for foreign scientists conducting joint research, and will simplify their obtaining in order to attract such specialists to the United Kingdom after the country leaves the EU. This was reported on Monday by the Financial Times, citing official sources.
According to them, the number of visas for scholars receiving research grants from British institutes will increase from 62 to more than 120. It will be enough for them to provide the British Ministry of Internal Affairs with a letter from the relevant funding organization to expedite their immigration checks. Among them, in particular, the European Research Council (European Council for Scientific Research), the organization Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions and Human Frontier Science (scientific program "Human Frontiers"). A complete list of such research organizations will be released early next year.
According to Interior Minister Prity Patel, the UK needs such an “immigration system that would attract the best minds from around the world”, would allow the kingdom to be “at the forefront of innovation”. Such innovations were welcomed by the President of the Royal Scientific Society Venkataraman Ramakrishnan. He called them "the first step in creating an immigration system that will encourage talented researchers from around the world".
