OREANDA-NEWS  Mandatory labeling of red and black caviar began in Russia - from May 1, manufacturers, importers and distributors are required to apply a labeling code to all caviar of sturgeon and salmon fish produced after this date, and provide information about the introduction of products into circulation to the labeling system.

The phased introduction of labeling of red and black caviar began in the country in April 2024. As of April 25, 2024, more than 19 thousand turnover participants, including 834 manufacturers and importers, have registered in the labeling system. In total, more than 264 thousand marking codes were issued.

"The level of readiness of the industry is high - even before the start of mandatory labeling requirements, more than 4.5 thousand units of products were put into circulation, which customers could already meet on store shelves," commented the deputy general director of the operator of the Honest Sign labeling system, the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT) Revaz Yusupov.

According to him, in cooperation with the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters (VARPE), extensive explanatory work was carried out for the caviar industry, as well as compensation for 50% of the costs of labeling equipment. More than 60 manufacturers have used this program.
