Man who Attacked People on Train in Japan Claimed to be Imitating Joker
OREANDA-NEWS. The perpetrator of an armed attack on a train in Tokyo, which injured 17 people, has admitted to mimicking the villain in the Batman comics, the Joker. This was reported by the Kyodo news agency.
He was wearing a Joker costume at the time of the attack. After being detained, Hattori told police officers that he "wanted to be sentenced to death" and that he "adores the Joker villain". He also specified that he had sprayed lighter fluid.
On the evening of October 31, Tokyo police apprehended a 24-year-old man named Keta Hattori, who started waving a knife around on the train, then spilled flammable liquid and set it on fire. Kyodo reported that he had spilled hydrochloric acid. One of the victims, a 70-year-old man, is in critical condition after being stabbed in the chest.
According to the original version provided by DC Comics author Alan Moore, the man who became the Joker fell into a vat of acid while running away from Batman. It was acid, according to Moore's conception, that the Joker owed both his appearance and his character.
In 2019, a new treatment of the DC Universe character's story was released from director Todd Phillips' The Joker, starring Joaquin Phoenix. According to the storyline, the identity of the hapless comedian Arthur Fleck's Joker takes place against a backdrop of social injustice, poverty and the struggles of the people of Gotham against oligarchs and power.
