OREANDA-NEWS. If the opposition seized power in Belarus, it would bring NATO troops to the Russian border. This was stated by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA reported.
"We would have made the biggest mistake if we had been defeated last year. The country would have simply not existed. If they had come to power for one day, there would have been the NATO block at Smolensk,"- said Lukashenko.
He noted that the current Constitution of the country allows the president to introduce foreign troops into the country, so the new version of the Constitution cannot concentrate power in the hands of one person.
Commenting on the situation in Ukraine, Lukashenko said that NATO's plans in that country were "unacceptable" neither for Russia nor for Belarus. "No one in Russia is going to attack Ukraine. Russia sees perfectly well what is going on in Ukraine. And what is going on there and what the NATO and Americans are planning there is unacceptable not only for Russia, but also for us, because we are next door,"- the Belarusian president said.
Earlier, in an interview with RIA Novosti, Lukashenka said that NATO allegedly had plans to invade Crimea in 2014. According to the Belarusian leader's version, the Ukrainian military then turned to the Russian military to prevent such a scenario. "They warned the Russians that Crimea will not be Russian unless you take certain actions. It won't be Ukrainian either. And whose will be NATO's,"- Lukashenko said.
