OREANDA-NEWS. The Parliament of Latvia on Thursday at a meeting adopted a resolution criticizing Russia regarding its views on the history of the Second World War. The adopted document is exclusively declarative in nature. “The Latvian parliament has just approved a resolution rejecting and condemning Russia's attempts to rewrite and whitewash the history of the outbreak of World War II, the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and Stalin’s criminal foreign policy”, wrote Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics on his Twitter.

The resolution was prepared on the initiative of the New Unity association, the head of the Latvian government. The document criticizes Moscow for "attempts by Russian officials to deny historical facts about the causes, progress, and completion of World War II." According to the authors of the document, in this way the Russian Federation is trying to "reduce the responsibility of the Soviet Union for the outbreak of war in Europe".

The authors of the document call on Russia as the successor of the USSR "to recognize the fact of the occupation and unlawful annexation of Latvia", and the world community to "critically evaluate the attempts of Russian officials to revise the history of World War II".

The Polish parliament adopted a similar resolution on January 9. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, then stated that the truth about the outcome of World War II was recorded by the Nuremberg Tribunal, and if the lower house of the Polish parliament doubts its decisions, this should be stated.
