Laos Returned to Russia 30 Tanks T-34
OREANDA-NEWS The Ministry of Defense of the Laos People's Democratic Republic in the framework of military-technical cooperation handed over to the Russian military Department 30 T-34 tanks in fully working order, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation reported.
The agreement on the return of tanks to Russia was reached in January last year during the visit of the Russian defense Minister Sergei Shoigu to Laos.
The equipment arrived by sea to Vladivostok. Subsequently, it will be delivered by rail to Naro-Fomisk near Moscow.
It is noted that the tanks are planned to be used including during military parades and filming.
Medium tanks of the anti-Hitler coalition, such as the Soviet T-34 and the American M4 Sherman, having largely similar characteristics, thanks to their strengths and mass played an outstanding role in the victory over Nazi Germany, wrote earlier the American magazine The National Interest.
The author emphasized the cheapness and ease of production of the T-34 - Russia produced "stunning" 84 thousand "thirty – four", while the US produced 49 thousand M4 Sherman, and the UK-only 6000 Cromwell tanks, writes The National Interest.
Medium tanks allies had similar weapons, armor and mobility, said the author.
However, their main feature was that they had sufficient characteristics to perform combat missions, and at the same time could be massively produced on an unprecedented scale, which fully allowed the USSR and the United States to use its powerful industrial potential to defeat the Third Reich, concludes The National Interest.
Earlier, the German magazine Stern admitted that the Soviet t-34 tank was a real "deadly surprise" for the Wehrmacht who attacked the USSR.
At the beginning of the war, the newspaper notes, this combat vehicle surpassed all German models of tanks. In his opinion, in comparison with the T-34 German tanks PZ.I, II, III were "only toys", while the Soviet machine had a powerful weapon, excellent maneuverability and inclined frontal armor, which the standard anti-tank guns of the Wehrmacht did not penetrate.
One of the secrets of the success of the "thirty-four" magazine calls a simple and ingenious design that easily allows you to establish mass production of the tank.
The T–34 is a legendary Soviet medium tank of the great Patriotic war period, which has been mass-produced since 1940. The car was the main tank of the red Army until the first half of 1944 before entering the army modification of the T-34-85.
