OREANDA-NEWS. Deputies of the Kiev City Council voted to dismantle the memorial sign in honor of friendship with Moscow.

The decision was supported by 80 out of 120 councilors.

"According to numerous appeals of citizens in Kiev, they are dismantling a memorial sign in honor of the friendship between the cities of Kiev and Moscow, which is installed in the park along Marshal Yakubovsky Street," the message on the website of the mayor's office says.

The City Council noted that the memorial sign will be transferred to storage of the Goloseevskaya regional administration before the creation of a museum of totalitarianism in Kiev.

"Anyone who walks along Yakubovskogo Street knows what the problematic with this sign is. Our people are already sketching it, throwing different capes on it so that it cannot be seen. There is a clear tension," the deputy from the faction said during the session "Fatherland" Igor Galaychuk. The broadcast was carried out on the YouTube channel of the City Hall.

Relations between Moscow and Kiev deteriorated against the background of the situation in Donbass after the coup in Ukraine in February 2014. The Kiev authorities have previously repeatedly accused the Kremlin of interfering in the country's internal affairs. In January 2015, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a statement in which Russia is called an "aggressor country." Moscow denies these charges and calls them unacceptable. Russia has repeatedly stated that it is not a party to the internal Ukrainian conflict and is interested in Kiev overcoming the political and economic crisis.
