OREANDA-NEWS. Next year, Ukraine will be able to start work on creating its own "missile shield". This is reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense of the country.

"In 2022, the Ministry of Defense will have the opportunity to work on the creation of a domestic missile shield,"- the ministry said.

The ministry clarified that, first of all, we are talking about restoring work on the operational-tactical complex "Sapsan". This project has been developed in Ukraine since 2006, its financing has been periodically stopped. The project involves the creation of a multifunctional operational-tactical missile system, in which operational-tactical, anti-aircraft and anti-ship missiles will be used as weapons of destruction.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine expects that by the beginning of next year, work will be completed on the creation of a high-precision Alder missile with improved characteristics for the modernized Smerch multiple launch rocket systems.

Ukrainian Defense Minister Andriy Taran announced the country's plans to create its own medium-range anti-aircraft missile system (SAM).

"To strengthen the air defense, the possibility of creating a domestic medium-range anti-aircraft missile system is being considered. And on the basis of the AN-178-a long-range radar detection and control aircraft,"- Taran said.
