Chess player Sergey Karjakin and a participant of the SVO, Hero of Russia Yuri Nimchenko, will represent Crimea in the Federation Council, said the head of the region Sergey Aksenov.

"Hero of Russia Yuri Petrovich Nimchenko will represent the executive body of state power of the Republic of Crimea in the Federation Council. <...> The senator from the representative body of state power of our republic will be Sergey Alexandrovich Karyakin, the world—famous grandmaster," the official said.

Nimchenko is a serviceman of the 126th Separate Guards Brigade of coastal Defense of the 22nd Army Corps of coastal troops of the Black Sea Fleet. Aksenov called him a man with the right attitude and the necessary qualities of character.

Karyakin, as the head of the republic stressed, is a true patriot who has proven his firm position, pays great attention to the education of young citizens.
Since 2014, Crimea has been represented in the Federation Council by Olga Kovitidi and Sergey Tsekov. Aksenov thanked them for their many years of fruitful work in the upper house of the Russian parliament and their great contribution to the development of the region and the country.
According to Tsekov, he knew about the upcoming decision two months ago and considers turnover to be a natural phenomenon. The politician clarified that he remains a senator until September, until new elections to the Crimean parliament are held.
