OREANDA-NEWS The Japanese authorities can offer Moscow to abandon mutual claims of any compensation related to the Southern Kurils. This publication reports the Yomiuri, citing informed sources.

It is expected that such a proposal will be made during the next round of dialogue on the Peace Treaty between the countries. According to sources of the newspaper, the relevant document can be signed simultaneously with the Peace Treaty between the two countries. The supplementary agreement is expected to help to finalize the post-war processes and strengthen bilateral relations.

Earlier, the Japanese authorities believed that the southern Kurils since the Second World War are "under occupation" and that Tokyo has the right to seek from Moscow payment of "compensation" for this. However, Japan now tends to believe that such claims will make it more difficult to negotiate a Peace Treaty.

Yesterday, on January 7, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe promised to make every effort to complete negotiations with Russia on a peace Treaty. According to this information, this year will be a "point" in the history of territorial differences between the countries.

Abe also said that the issue of ownership of the Kuril Islands can not be resolved without the consent of their inhabitants.

Earlier, Senator Franz Klintsevich said that the transfer of part of the Kuril Islands to Japan is out of the question because of the inviolability of Russia's borders and its security.

In November, Japanese Prime Minister  Shinzo Abe and Russian President Vladimir Putin reached an agreement to accelerate negotiations on a peace Treaty based on the 1956 Soviet-Japanese Declaration.

Moscow stresses that the Islands became part of the Soviet Union following the second world war and Russia's sovereignty over them is beyond doubt.
