OREANDA-NEWS  Tokyo considers Moscow's decision to impose sanctions against Japanese citizens absolutely unacceptable, and the Russian side protested, Japanese government Secretary General Yoshimasa Hayashi said at a press conference.

"Such measures restrict the legitimate activities of Japanese companies and are absolutely unacceptable," he said.

According to Hayashi, the Russian side explained that this is a response to sanctions from Tokyo. At the same time, the official tried to justify the Japanese measures by the Russian special operation in Ukraine.

According to the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers, Tokyo sent a protest to the Russian side on July 24 in connection with the restrictive measures introduced.

"Japan will continue to take all possible measures to protect corporations and business activities in Russia," Hayashi added.
On the eve of the Russian Foreign Ministry, in response to sanctions from Tokyo, banned 13 Japanese citizens from entering the country. The list, in particular, includes Hiroshi Mikitani, founder of RAKUTEN Corporation, Akio Toyoda, Chairman of the Board of Toyota Motor, Akihiko Tanaka, President of the Japan International Cooperation Agency, as well as top managers of large Japanese companies.

As NHK reported, citing a source in diplomatic circles, Tokyo fears that the sanctions imposed by Russia may exert "psychological pressure" on local companies interested in projects to rebuild Ukraine.
