OREANDA-NEWS. Due to the influx of foreign tourists, customs procedures are often very slow, forcing visitors to stand in long lines at airports in Japan. Now, however, travelers who briefly arrived in Japan will have an opportunity not to stand in lines while they are trying to leave the country, using face id technology.
The face id system for tourists will be available at Tokyo Airport from July 24, and then will appear at other airports in the big cities prefectures by next July. Procedures do not require prior registration.
The representative of the immigration agency also said that only travelers who have been in Japan for already 3 months will be able to use this system. New customs will id faces and compare images with photographic data involved on microchips in travelers' passports.
The gate will automatically open if the computer confirms a match. The officials said that the process will take only 15 seconds. Those who do not want to leave Japan without a passport stamp will be able to request it at customs posts before boarding the aircraft.
