OREANDA-NEWS. The head of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan, Fumio Kishida, who previously held the post of foreign minister, was elected the country's 100th prime minister.

The vote was broadcast live. As a result of the procedure in the key lower house, he received support in 311 out of 458 ballots submitted. Then 141 out of 241 people spoke for him at the top.

This position is elected by majority vote. Each political movement nominates its own candidate - as a rule, these are their leaders. Since the ruling party has more than half of the mandates, the election of Kishida was predictable.

A new composition of the Cabinet of Ministers is to be announced today. It is already known that 13 out of 20 members of the government will become ministers for the first time. Even the venerable age of 77 years did not prevent one of them from becoming a debutant in this post. The youngest minister is 44 years old.

Hirokazu Matsuno will be the general secretary. Three people will move from the previous government to the new cabinet: Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi; Koichi Hagiuda, who headed the Ministry of Science and Education, will become Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Kishida said on Monday that after being elected, he intends to dissolve the lower house of parliament due to the expiration of its term of office, in order to hold elections on October 31.
