OREANDA-NEWS. Tehran called on U.S. President Donald Trump to abandon risky moves in Iraq and review his policy in the region. The corresponding statement was made on Friday by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Mousavi.
"Mr. Trump, instead of taking dangerous steps and baseless accusations, you better thoroughly review the presence and actions of your armed forces in the region", the press service of the foreign ministry quoted him as saying.
Mousavi added that "the United States cannot shift the responsibility for its illegal presence in Iraq to others". Thus, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reacted to Trump’s statements about Iran’s involvement in attacks on US forces in the region. According to Mousavi, these actions were "the response of the people of Iraq to the killing by the Americans of Iraqi fighters and military leaders".
On Wednesday, two U.S. military personnel and one from another coalition nation were killed in shelling at the Et-Taj base in Iraq. In addition, 12 soldiers were injured. Trump blamed the attack on Iran and Tehran-supported Shiite groups. Following the shelling of Al-Taji air force base, the coalition launched a series of attacks on the camps of the Iraqi Shiite al-Hashd al-Shaabi in the Syrian city of Bu-Kemal on the border with Iraq. According to Syrian human rights activists, 18 militias died as a result of the raids.
