OREANDA-NEWS. The United States will not be able to extend the arms embargo against Iran, which expires in October. This opinion was expressed on Monday by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Abbas Mousavi.
“With regard to the US efforts to extend the arms embargo, we hope that this issue will not be put to the UN Security Council,” Young Journalists Club quoted him as saying. “However, if that happens, Iran will give an appropriate answer”. According to Mousavi, "Washington, after its own exit, wants to destroy all the achievements of the Joint Comprehensive Action Plan (JCPOA)".
The newspaper The New York Times on April 26 reported that the United States intends to try to get the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution providing for the preservation of the arms embargo against the Islamic Republic on the basis of the JCPOA. In accordance with the provisions of this document, which was signed by the permanent five of the UN Security Council and Germany with Iran in 2015, Tehran will be able to purchase weapons and military equipment from foreign suppliers in October.
