OREANDA-NEWS Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian expressed regret over the imposition of EU sanctions against Iran and called for measures against Israel.
"The EU must act responsibly and impose sanctions against the Israeli regime," he wrote on social media on Tuesday.
Abdollahian called the EU's decision to impose more "illegal restrictions" against Iran "deplorable" only because Tehran exercised its right to self-defense in response to an Israeli strike on the country's consulate in Syria.
He expressed regret that the EU's reaction to Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip is almost entirely "empty words".
The day before, the Iranian Foreign Ministry criticized the West's plans to impose new sanctions against Iran. Such an action was called "an illegal act directed against our Government, which resorts to legitimate measures to deter a militant regime."
Last week, the European Council promised new sanctions against Iran in connection with Tehran's strikes on Israel.
On the night of April 14, the forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) struck Israel with drones and missiles in response to the Israeli shelling of the Iranian consulate in Damascus, which killed several Iranian military advisers, including two IRGC generals.
