OREANDA-NEWS. Employees of Interpol, together with the authorities of Germany, Ireland and the Netherlands, were able to uncover a criminal scheme worth almost € 2.4 million related to the sale of masks for German doctors in the midst of the new coronavirus pandemic. This was announced on Tuesday by the press service of Interpol on its website.

According to Interpol, in March, the German health authorities in search of medical masks contacted a company in Spain, which stated that it had about 10 million pieces of necessary medical devices. The company couldn't deliver the masks, but advised a supplier in Ireland who could complete the order.

In the case, two suspects in the Netherlands were detained, but there may be more intruders involved in this crime. "The detainees in this case have nothing to do with the production of medical equipment, they are just experienced fraudsters who saw the opportunity to make money on the outbreak of the coronavirus", said Interpol Secretary General Jurgen Stock.
